Heartbeat

Words and music on the fleeting nature of time and the enduring power of love with interval Cream Tea in aid of Calon Hearts.

Counting the seconds, minutes, and hours that mark the dark nights and light days of our lives. We observe the daily cycles of sun and moon, the turning of the seasons, and see in the universe’s myriad stars a glimpse and hope of eternity.

With its finger firmly on the pulse of contemporary choral music, Spectrum Singers' concert programme is infused with modern settings of ancient texts in Eleanor Daley’s 'Upon Your Heart', and comes bang up to date with JVKE’s viral TikTok hit 'Golden Hour', which captures the heady feeling of falling in love.

We’ll set your hearts racing with an electrifying a cappella arrangement of 'Bohemian Rhapsody', pull on your heartstrings with nostalgia for Beeching’s vanished branch lines in Flanders & Swann’s 'The Slow Train', and prove an ear can break a human heart in the achingly beautiful 'The Saddest Noise' by Christopher Tin.

Embracing the human condition, we celebrate our capacity to find beauty, meaning, and connection in the short time we’re given and agree with the poet Philip Larkin: ‘What will survive of us is love.’
